[Bug 397420] Re: jaunty, xserver crash on startup, toshiba tecra m1

hi all

i have searched trough a lot of bugs with problems "running in low graphics mode" in 9.10.
I have upgraded kubuntu 9.04 to 9.10 and get also this error.. and found, i hope for all others using kubuntu 9.10, a solution.

in /etc there is the "gmd" dir: /etc/gdm
and in this dir is an empty file: failsafe

but the default display manager is kdm:
more /etc/X11/default-display-manager
/usr/bin/kdm

gdm isn't installed on my system.. so..

..i renamed /etc/gdm to eg. /etc/gdm_save, rebooted more then once my
system and voilà... no problem with low graphics mode..

my system:
lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 9.10
Release: 9.10
Codename: karmic

graphic:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G73 [GeForce Go 7700] (rev a1)

graphic driver:
nvidia-glx-185

hope this helps others here...

have a nice time :)
thomi
