[Bug 484157] [NEW] Screen flickering in 3D applications with open source radeon driver.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

In some 3D apps I experience screen flickering, which makes those apps
completely unusable. I noticed it in following apps: Google Earth,
Blender, Pymol and also some 3D games like for example Hive Rise.

I first noticed it happened a while ago under Ubuntu 9.04 where, if the
application was switched to full screen mode flickering stopped at least
with apps I tested=Google Earth and Hive Rise. After recent upgrade to
Ubuntu 9.10 the problem seems to be the same, but in full screen mode
flickering doesn't stop - apps I tested=Google Earth, Blender, Pymol.

The worst problems I noticed are in Google Earth - the application is
completely unusable, because screen flickers when redrawing the content
(rotating/zooming the Earth or showing new downloaded data) - screenshot
attached. Blender full screen window (don't know how to switch it to
normal window mode) just shows some panel applets below it, which
frequently changes/animates+doesn't update/redraw properly when other
window is moved over it or application is closed. Pymol window for
viewing the molecule structure is shown without the border+doesn't
update/redraw properly when other window is moved over it or application
is closed. I deleted the Hive Rise game before upgrade, so I didn't
tested it with the new Ubuntu 9.10, but the screen flickering was
similar to Google Earth before upgrade=game was completely unusable.

I'm not sure if the problem is in "xserver-xorg-video-ati" or "xserver-xorg-video-radeon" package or some other. Compiz 3D effects seems to work fine. My system configuration is:
- Ubuntu 9.10
- Packages "xserver-xorg-video-ati" and "xserver-xorg-video-radeon" version - 1:6.12.99+git20090929.7968e1fb-0ubuntu1
- Notebook HP Compaq nx9420, ATI Mobility Radeon X1600.
