[Bug 482656] [NEW] Ubuntu 9.10 freezes presumably because of ATI video

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I've installed Ubuntu 9.10 for the first time at my laptop RoverBook
Voyager H570L. After I logged in it loads GNOME when I try to run an
application (and sometimes without my activity) it freezes completely
(even mouse doesn't move, NumLock doesn't work, no combination like
Ctrl+SysRq+... help).

In fail safe mode GNOME works just fine. The only trouble I've found is
that System -> Administration -> System Monitor shows the window which
is completely unreadable, it is even impossible to understand, what is
tries to show as it look like lots of vertical and horizontal lines of
different colors. Though I can move the window (dragging the top line)
or close it (clicking the place where the cross should be). In OpenDoc
artifacts on buttons appear. So may be there is a problem with
videocard. But anything else works fine, the resolution is correct, I
can play video. The videocard is ATI M7 Mobility Radeon 7500

What can I do to make it work in not failsafe mode?
