[Bug 452096] Re: kwin uses way too much CPU when there's no activity
Hi, I think I might have the same bug, even though I'm using an Acer
Aspire 5685 WLMi Laptop with an Intel Core 2 Duo and a Nvidia GeForce Go
7600. (Kernel: 2.6.31-14-generic, arch: x86_64, nvidia-driver: nvidia-
glx-185)
I also noticed high kwin cpu usage, then searched for it and disabled
the "Use Vsync" option in System Settings / Look & Feel / Desktop /
Desktop Effects / Advanced [tab]. After this my cpu usage normally stays
pretty low. Nevertheless it sometimes (every 10 minutes) happens that
kwin suddenly decides to take up 100 % cpu time (of one core). I can
immediately fix that problem by toggling composite with
[ALT]+[SHIFT]+[F12] ("switching it off and on again").
I decided to investigate the problem a bit further and did an strace of
kwin for a couple of seconds and also an lsof | grep kwin (see
attachment). It seems as if kwin is stuck polling some file descriptor
(in this fd9, which seems to be a unix socket (lsof)).
If you have any questions or ideas how i can provide more information,
let me know.
