[Bug 469470] Re: proprietary nvidia driver does not work under karmic
I've just tried installing the latest NVidia driver (190.42) following
this thread: http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/index.php?topic=3100807.0
The driver installed (compiled, etc.) correctly and appears to have been
loaded into kernel space (at least, the kernel log contained nothing
after the last line below, so I assume it loaded successfully):
...
Nov 28 01:44:07 tao kernel: [ 1939.983914] nvidia: module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel.
Nov 28 01:44:07 tao kernel: [ 1939.983919] Disabling lock debugging due to kernel taint
Nov 28 01:44:08 tao kernel: [ 1940.260674] ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [APC5] enabled at IRQ 16
Nov 28 01:44:08 tao kernel: [ 1940.260681] alloc irq_desc for 16 on node -1
Nov 28 01:44:08 tao kernel: [ 1940.260683] alloc kstat_irqs on node -1
Nov 28 01:44:08 tao kernel: [ 1940.260690] nvidia 0000:01:00.0: PCI INT A -> Link[APC5] -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16
Nov 28 01:44:08 tao kernel: [ 1940.261256] NVRM: loading NVIDIA UNIX x86 Kernel Module 190.42 Tue Oct 20 20:18:32 PDT 2009
But after running nvidia-xconfig and restarting kdm, once again X
complained that the kernel module failed to load.
