Message #36386
[Bug 438346] Re: [i915gm] [jaunty, karmic] X freezes every day or so
I have IBM ThinkPad X41 with intel 915 video chipset. I'm using Gnome
and doesn't have either Compiz installed nor any effects enabled. The
problem has surfaced after some update back in 9.04. I'm seeing very
often (sometimes a couple time a day) after upgrade to 9.10. Been
running Ubuntu since 8.04 after dumping SuSe in favor of the Debian like
distro. Should I add that it has became HIGHLY frustrating?
When X hangs only the mouse cursor is moving: I can't switch to a
terminal, I can't change windows, I can't restart gnome by Ctrl-PrtSc-K.
However, I can ssh into my machine and even can force it to sleep by
running pm-suspend. On the next wake up an xterm (if it happened to be
running before the freeze) is usable (as well as CLI terminals). But
that's pretty much it. gdm can't be restarted and normally I need to
reboot the laptop.
I'm currently running this session with all debug env. set. As soon as
it freezes next time I'm going to post the logs here.
