- I started I recovery mode
- The system asked me me to choose a startup mode
- I choose the root terminal
- I switched to my user
- I typed startx

It worked.

I don't know if the test I made answers to your question. Anyway I was
confident that this would work because everything is working fine when
GDM is used.
