[Bug 368722] Re: Desktop Effects don't work
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 359392 ***

If you're feeling frisky, you can run a Karmic kernel and Xswat
Xwindows.
I have a 1525 with a build configuration based on Linux Mint 7 (based on
Jaunty) but with an upgraded kernel to a stable version of 2.6.31 and
upgraded Xwindows, video intel drivers from x-swat, which makes it more
equivalent to Linux Mint 8 (based on Karmic).
You'll also need to choose an Accelmethod of uxa in your xorg.conf
It is very capable and stable, even running accelerated Google Earth.
There's more information of the steps I took at this page, but I'm now
running 2.6.31 instead, which is even better.

intel/+bug/423663
Of course, upgrading to Karmic is a good way to get the benefits of the
new kernel's X support and the improved UXA approach. I'm sure the same
steps would be equivalent on a regular Ubuntu installation.
