Message #38949
[Bug 225508] Re: resolution reset on login
I'd like to report a similar issues (again with the ATI 2600XT HD) video
card on both Kubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) and Kubuntu 9.10 (Karmic). This issue
is seen when using the fglrx drivers.
After installing and running aticonfig, I get an initial correct
resolution of 1920x1080 (this is for a media center where the display is
a 1080p LCD TV). On reboot, the resolution is completely off, I can
barely use the screen (it seems to default to a 4:3 ratio, but I can't
tell what the resolution is, probably 1024x768 or something similar),
and I can't use the settings panel to change it back to 1920x1080 (that
option doesn't exist).
To fix this problem, I have to copy back an original unconfigured xorg
file, run aticonfig --initial, and reboot. This gets the resolution back
to the correct 1920x1080.
This is seen on fresh installs of both kubuntu karmic (fully upgraded as
of 12/17/2009) and jaunty (upgraded as of 10/30/2009). The fglrx drivers
are those from the default repositories. I've been seeing this issue for
about 8 months, so it would be great to know what's going on.
Let me know if there's any other information I can provide.
Thanks.
