This worked for me to correct mouse failure after first click with a
U100 Wind and both 9.04 and 9.10...

I had to put the commands : 
/sbin/modprobe -r psmouse
/sbin/modprobe psmouse

in /etc/init.d/rc.local in order that they will be executed as root
