Message #39962
[Bug 480825] Re: external monitor resolution 800x600
It seems that the reason the 1024x768 mode is not available is that
there is something wrong with the EDID information. From XorgLog.txt:
(II) intel(0): Not using mode "1024x768" (bad mode
clock/interlace/doublescan)
There have been a lot of resolution quirks in newer kernels. It is
possible that this has already be fixed in Lucid. Could you give Lucid a
try? You can download a LiveCD daily image from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/ and the latest milestone from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/10.04/ . You may also test the latest
kernels from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ (see also
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/MainlineBuilds). If this has been
fixed upstream at all, it should work with the latest drm-intel-next
kernel.
** Summary changed:
- external monitor resolution 800x600
+ [i915gm] max external monitor resolution 800x600 instead of 1024x768
