Since I'm not a technie I didn't try to read that xorg.0.log but did you discover anything useful by examining it?

Also, is there any chance the next version of Ubuntu will incorporate
this so people with insignia or similar monitors, who had no problems
with Drake but had problems with Heron and Koala, will have things work
automatically (with default settings) in the next version? thanks.
