Thank you for reporting this bug, Brian. Take a look at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze for more information
about this kind of bug and especially how to get a batchbuffer dump.
Other things that would be useful is disabling any OpenGL stuff and also
try some newer and older mainline kernels from http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ (see also
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/MainlineBuilds) to see if any of them
stop the freezes.
