[Bug 450055] Re: restrictive & unalterable resolutions & low refresh rates
** Description changed:
Binary package hint: xorg
Jaunty gave me 85 Hz refresh rates and resolutions higher then 1024x768
Karmic beta restricts me to 1024x768x75 & lower
At 75 Hz I can still see the monitor flickering,
which hurts my eyes, & actually causes me to tire faster and stop my
work on my PC.
Apparently, the new automatic probes for resolutions & refresh rates
do not accurately represent the capabilities of both the monitor or the
graphics card.
xserver-xorg-video-intel drivers default back to vesa and framebuffer
probing.
the xorg.conf file shows a search for intel-i810 drivers which of course
were
replaced by the xserver-xorg-video-intel drivers.
Possible other side-effects are: black frame-shadows around all windows
and
icons, perhaps this is supposed to emulate a 3D effect (unable to alter
this effect)
also, for some strange reason all desktop icons, as well as folders in
nautilus,
now have a green check-mark attached to them.
I am also unable to properly shut down my system.
I can either use BUM & sysV-rc-conf to shut down the PC when selecting
reboot,
or make reboot work, but then am unable to fully shut down.
I believe in YOU to fix these annoyances soon, maybe my input is some
help to you.
Searching the forums and bug reports, evidently 1000s of users are
experiencing
similar or related bugs.
Of course, that is to be expected with a beta version.
Thank YOU for your hard work and YOUR genius in developing Ubuntu.
BavarianPH
