[Bug 502975] Re: video garbled when main monitor is off

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I use standard ubuntu System/Preferences/Display tool to operate a DVI-
connected monitor to my Lenovo W500 laptop. When the laptop screen is
off, and the external monitor is on, the video is garbled - vertical
columns of pixels are either missing, or duplicated, so that f.ex.
letter "m" may look like a wide "n", and "o" like a "c". Horizontal rows
are not affected, so the desktop is operation and visible, although in a
  very distorted way.

Xorg.log, lspci, xorg.conf etc are collected at
  http://karasik.eu.org/misc/intel/
