The original summary-description of the bug report was correct: 
Xorg freezes with modeset (default) 
Xorg does NOT freeze wit the option "nomodeset".

Se also the text in the detailed bug-description.

Currently the only way to boot is to set the option "nomodeset" in grub.

Alternative summary would read: "Xorg requires "nomodeset" to avoid
freeze"
