[Bug 524548] Re: please backport "Allocate Xv buffers to GTT." from upstream for lucid

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

  Read this on Phoronix:

"If using the latest ATI open-source driver Git code for kernel mode-
setting, there may be slightly better X-Video support without any visual
slowdowns/problems. Pauli Nieminen has changed around the code so that a
video buffer is allocated in the GTT (Graphics Translation Table) to
provide faster memory operations that haven't been accelerated by KMS.

The patch that provides the performance boost to X-Video under ATI
kernel mode-setting can be found on the xorg-driver-ati mailing list and
  has since been committed."

This would be great if it could be integrated/backported for Lucid,
especially since XV-performance with the free drivers on Radeon
- 2600XT/PRO cards is really, really bad right now (Xorg using nearly
- 80-90% of a CPU-core of a 2,8GHz C2D when displaying 1080p video
- regardless of the player used).
+ 2600XT/PRO cards is really, really bad right now (Xorg using up to and
+ sometimes over 40-50% of a CPU-core of a 2,8GHz C2D when displaying
+ 1080p video regardless of the player used).
