[Bug 474677] Re: [q35] sun gdm 5010pt monitor not detected at installation

if i remove the conf file, all i get is 640x480 resolution with 8 bit
color depth which can not be changed. i have other installations which
have detected the monitor and video correctly and provide me with up to
1600x1200 resolution and 24 bit color depth without the modification of
the additional xorg.conf file.

the additional conf file was my only way to get the resolution and color
depth i need to make it usable.

is there something unique with the way the monitor is detected. it does
not detect that it is a 21" sun gdm series monitor. the monitor comes up
unknown. even after I have the hardware probed again manually. if the
installation does not detect the capabilities of the monitor, doesn't it
go to the lower common denominator or 640x480 at 8 bit color depth?

this has been a problem for a couple of ubuntu installs for me in my lab
over the past 3 releases. the majority of them work well. this is more a
heads up to you for the next long term release rather than a call to
action to help me.
