[Bug 517568] Re: [q35] Intermittent frozen PC - No input signal on screen, mouse and keyboard unresponsive

Hi

I have not had this problem since 3.2.10. It may be because at that time
I reconfigured compiz as below:-

Uninstalled compiz -gnome and compiz. Restarted. Installed all updates through update manager.
Reinstalled compiz -gnome and compiz. Restarted. Compiz.real still at 80 – 90%CPU
Then set visual effects to none. Then normal then extra and CPU all normal and ok.
Entered Simple Compiz config settings manager and reconfigured.
Entered Compiz config settings manager and reconfigured.
Back to visual effects and now already set to custom and all back to working ok as original with normal CPU

So could of been a problem with compiz?

Also from reading around it seems like it is not uncommon for compiz to
cause lockups from time to time? Therefore as long as this only happens
occasionally I can live with this for the great effects compiz gives

An example of freezing info is from http://wiki.compiz.org/Distributions
as below

'Furthermore, do not install Compiz Fusion on important production
machines, such as servers, business workstations or other systems where
uptime is crucial; Compiz Fusion is likely to crash or even lock up your
system at least once. It is, however, suitable for normal desktop use.
In the event that Compiz causes system failure or data loss, you will
need to know how to recover your system.'

I have not run any torrents since last freeze though, but does not seem
like this was cause of problem?

Therefore please mark as solved.

However thanks for your help

Regards

Michael

PS unfortunately I do not have the time to test install the most recent
Lucid Lynx 10.04 Alpha release as you requested and as I said this is no
longer an urgent problem and does not seem to be affecting anyone else.
