Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

i drive an old machine (compaq presario 2800) with an ATI screen (radeon 7500).
with a lucid kernel and 9.10 kubuntu packages (kde)
while dragging and dropping items on my desktop, discovered mainly in Dolphin my machine immediately logs off
terminating the kdm session and also stopping tailf logging so i don't see anything special on the log

i affricate any kind of help

may be connected my computer is not able to "go to sleep"
it sleeps with the fan in full speed
i know i should upgrade my machine but so far (until installing 10.4 lucid kernel) all was well

thanks
shani
