[Bug 532505] [NEW] Disabling compositing corrupts desktop using the radeon driver

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

Hi!
I run KDE 4.4.1 on karmic from the kubuntu repositories on a Laptop with a Radeon Mobility 9000. Compositing works quite well with the radeon driver. But Xorg and plasma seem to consume lots of memory (system's total phys. memory: 768MB), the system is slow and my system swaps quite often. In KDE 4.3 I didn't notice that behavior. Note that I already disabled nepomuk.
Thus, I tried to disable compositing to get a performance boost. This produces a strange effect. Depending on where the systemsettings window is located when disabling compositing, some part of the desktop seems to be corrupt. As well as the control bar as kwin didn't change from compositing to non-compositing in some area. In the attachment you'll find some screenshots illustrating the behavior.

** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
