[Bug 528553] Re: inital logon time freeze - consistent across reboots

Answer to question - Apologies for delays -
I mentioned crash simply because the error comes as crash report. But you are correct, its not that the system crashes - its the Intel GPU related module crashes. After it happens the screen and mouse movement etc. doesn't freeze but becomes extremely slow. As if you have reduced the mouse acceleration to minimum. And after a few minutes (varies) the display goes off, system goes in low graphics mode and the only option works is to restart the computer - restarting X-server doesn't help.
Hope this helps.

Also, I tried installing the latest kernel from the unsupported PPA you
had mentioned but I am unable to 'see' the kernel packages - I get PGP
errors.

------
You mentioned 'crash' in your report, but I notice a gpu dump got
captured, which only occurs for X freezes. Can you confirm that what
you've seen is a freeze (system appears to lockup but maybe the mouse
cursor moves) rather than a crash (dumps you back to login screen)?
