[Bug 537745] [NEW] nouveau can't set screen resolution lucid 2.6.32-16

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

System: dell XPS-630i Intel Q9550 (amd_64) 8gb ram NVIDIA 9800 GT (x2) video (have tested also with slave card removed)
Lucid 10.04 with all current updates, kernel 2.6.32-16 (current update)

I have tried the nouveau video driver, both from the ubuntu repository,
and from the "x edgers" repository - same problem.

The text screen properly determines the screen resolution (1680x1050),
but x comes up in 640x480, Trying to change the resolution with XRANDR
or kde systemsettings>display shows there are only two resolutions
available: 640x480, and 700-something. Changing between the two does
work. XRANDR does not show any of the other reoltuions of which this
monitor is capable. If I boot with the 'nomodeset' option, I get the
vesa driver which does come up in 1680x1050. I do have the nouveau
driver enabled in xorg.conf. It appears that nouveau is not detecting
the hardware capabilities correctly.

** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
