thanks bryce... im still trying to get into my box to do backtracing
while its locked... ctrl-alt-Fanynumber wont get me a terminal, but im
noticing some HD activity light action when i press the power key, which
makes me think i might get in over SSH or something... it seems to be
triggered after resuming from standby, im on the machine now, and i had
it on for hours yesterday with no issues, but i put it in standby, and
it'll hard lock soon after resuming, but not immediately  ... doesnt
seem to be triggered by a program or action, but im still experimenting
to find a trigger... im glad to try any ideas you have as far as
trouble-shooting/testing... thanks again
