[Bug 538694] Re: default built-in configuration is used even though i have created an xorg.conf
the correct location is /etc/X11/xorg.conf
unfortunately that will not work for disabling nouveau, you want to add
it to the blacklist so the kernel module won't get loaded. you can do so
by editing /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-nouveau.conf (or
anythingyouwant.conf in that directory) and adding blacklist nouveau to
it. Then run sudo update-initramfs -u and reboot.
