I am experiencing the exact same problem on my Lenovo Thinkpad W500. My
video card is the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 hardware, however.   I am
also getting white (frequent but not constant) horizontal lines
appearing and disappearing  randomly all over the display.

I'm guessing this could be a Linux Kernel (KMS) problem, or an X-org
problem, or a video driver problem.  I will hold off on attaching a
massive amount of log data and hardware info someone with a little more
knowledge in these areas can tell me what would be most useful.  :)

I can provide a video of this problem if it would help troubleshoot.
