Adding nomodeset to the kernel parameters seems to have fixed this for
me.

Probably best not to mark this as a dupe of 538344 just yet since Russel
reports he is seeing it with an Intel card...?

538344 does mention that kernel 2.6.34 pre rc1 seems to fix the problem.
Maybe Russel could test with that kernel to see if the problem goes
away?
