Yay. Well, I now have the serial mouse working in 9.04 as per
suggestions located here:

I just hope it will continue to work if I upgrade to 10.04 as I read
something on another page indicating that the HAL won't be responsible
for configuring devices, or maybe it was that this would be done in a
different way.

Well, it works or now, but really - there should be utils built to
handle this issue.
