[Bug 526698] Re: switching from X to VT then back to X not working (ACPI related?)
Two more clue for this problem. When I switch from X to VT back to X,
the keyboard still works to the extent that if I momentarily press and
release the power switch and then press enter, the machine will power
off exactly as though the power off pop-up was displayed (the default
position is on shutdown). So this means that the main problem is that
the display is not visible but the input devices are still functioning.
An even bigger clue is that the problem can be eliminated by enabling
and then disabling the Power Manager Inhibit Applet via the panel on
gnome. After enabling and then disabling the power manage inhibit
applet, then switching from X to VT and then back to X works fine. This
really argues that there is some issue between X and ACPI that happens
to show up in the server kernel. It may potentially exist in the
generic server but is possibly masked by the CFQ scheduling discipline
in the generic kernel (I think that CFQ can diminish game frame rates in
certain possibly pathological cases and is why I use the server
version).
