Black screen during boot process also occurs with the following configuration:
- MacBookPro 5.3
- Nvidia 9600M GT and discreet 9400M (which is undetected: this is normal)
- no external monitors
- AMD64 Beta 1 Live CD

If the mode setting is removed, the boot splash appears with background image and progress indicator that uses text characters.
ureadahead then crashes and the boot process hangs.
