[Bug 554237] Re: black screen after GRUB, ubuntu unusable
Also, this is probably superfluous, but comparte GdmLog.txt (succes) to
GdmLog1.txt (fail):
(EE) intel(0): No modes.
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.
Fatal server error:
no screens found
** Package changed: ubuntu => xorg (Ubuntu)
** Description changed:
- When I start up my laptop, it will always show a black screen right after GRUB (as in, the screen is turned off, no backlight either). I do hear the GDM login sound, and the computer does a shutdown when i press the power button.

This makes ubuntu unusable, and I suspect it has something to do with plymouth, because sometimes it shows a message along the lines of 'unable to connect to plymouthd'.
The only thing that fixes this is to remove the power supply and the
battery, just before starting up. When I put the battery back and start
up the laptop, it will boot into Ubuntu 10.04 fine, without black screen
trouble. It still doesn't show any plymouth boot screen though, just
text.
I suspect it has something to do with the video modesetting, and maybe
the wrong setting can only be erased by disconnecting the power.
Everything was working fine in Ubuntu 9.10, by the way.
