Hi

I have a problem similar to that. The diference is: I'm using a laptop
SempToshiba, Kubuntu version, upgraded from Karmic and there is no
bootsplash on startup. The symptons are the same. But when I reboot with
the kernel of 9.10 version the system works nicely.

I waited the update of kernel (to 2.6.32-19-generic) and xorg, but the
problem persists.
