It's not the same issue like in the bug. As you can see in the attached picture, it's completely readable, only there's a black frame around the notification.
And IIRC when you set renderaccel off, the system gets significantly slower.
About suspending: does it work for you? For me the backlight stays on while in suspended state, and what is worse, the system can't come back either, freezing somewhere in the waking process.
