[Bug 551226] Re: [Lucid] moving laptop/laptop screen causes high xorg cpu usage and windows to become grey

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

  Hi

I've got a HP 6720s laptop (which has an intel GM965/GL960 graphics card) whenever I move the screen, or even move the laptop at all, I get increased cpu usage from xorg. Anything up to 80% for up to 10-20 secs.
Whilst this is going on, any windows open have all gone grey.

Afterwards in the Xorg log I get :
(II) PM Event received: Capability Changed
  I830PMEvent: Capability change

  followed by
(II) intel(0): EDID vendor "SEC", prod id 17733
(II) intel(0): Printing DDC gathered Modelines:
  (II) intel(0): Modeline "1280x800"x0.0 69.30 1280 1296 1344 1416 800 801 804 816 -hsync -vsync (48.9 kHz)

  repeated quite a few times.

This is a problem I've had since Karmic (see Bug #470828) where I
thought it was linked to the hal package. Currently I'm trying the Lucid
  beta1 and it persists.

In Lucid hal isn't around, so I doubt it has anything to do with hal as
initially thought. Likewise the output of $ udevadm monitor and $ tail
-f /var/log/messages that occurred in Karmic (as in Bug #470828) don't
occur in Lucid. I've tried using no visual effects and it still happens,
  so its not compiz.

This leaves me with Xorg (right?!)

  Can anyone help with this?
