I have no strong opinion on this as I don't use multi tap actions and I consider this issue a matter of taste.

If we decide to revert the change I guess we should revert this in the
synaptics driver too so that the touchpad behaviour doesn't change after
you enter the gnome session (i.e. when the gnome-settings-daemon is
launched).
