[Bug 495553] Re: [K8M800] Beta-2 boot failure, Screen origin shifted to center, screen wraps, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid

The booting problem described in #111 is still happening with the 17
April '10 daily build. It's impossible to log in to the X/Gnome display,
since as soon as the system logs in, X fails and the GDM login screen
reappears after several seconds.

After some experimentation, I was able to log on in single-user mode as
follows: Boot, type ctrl-alt-F1 to get a screen which allows one to edit
the kernel command line (after choosing the language). I edited the
command line to end in " single nosplash nofb --". A list of choices
appears, and I chose to log in as root with networking enabled. The
system was able to connect using dhcp, and I determined the IP address
for the system.

One problem at this point is that the logical screen had more text lines
than would fit on the screen, so I was typing blind.

I then set a password for root, and used apt-get to install openssh-
server, so I could ssh in and log in from another system. I then tried
to start the X server, using 'X', 'runlevel 3' , etc. I was able to get
a blank X screen with a cursor. I saved /var/log/Xorg.0.log 3 times
during this process. I have attached those.
