[Bug 563774] Re: Invalid EDID for Dell SP2309W in VGA mode

I've been messing around with lots of different programs to calculate
the best modeline, but all of them seem to wrong in some way. (Perhaps
the authors never tested resolutions and scan frequencies in the range
of this particular monitor?)

I found an "obsolete" web page that seems to tell me everything that I don't understand:
http://en.tldp.org/HOWTO/XFree86-Video-Timings-HOWTO/

I've been modifying my modeline and this is the best I've got so far...
Modeline "2048x1152_BB" 156.75 2048 2120 2152 2208 1152 1155 1160 1185 +hsync -vsync

It is based on the modeline provided by the monitor in its EDID data, so
I approve of the scan frequency and the sync flags. I have simply added
24 (3x8) to the horizontal start and end sync pulse numbers. The desktop
image now fills the screen, with an acceptably small left margin (approx
2 mm). Unfortunately, the right margin is now wrong and it looks as if
about 5mm is being clipped. Still, that is real progress!
