[Bug 565643] Re: Xserver does not start due to drm problem

 

Hmm, this is really odd.  Well I'm not sure that it's an issue with the
-ati driver necessarily - it looks like something is messed up lower
down, like maybe xorg-server.  I notice that it has this line:

  xorg-server 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu5 (Bryce Harrington <bryce@xxxxxxxxxx>)

Which looks weird... it should mention a buildd I think.  Did you
install xorg-server out of a ppa by chance?  If so try disabling the
ppa.

As well I notice your xorg.conf has a lot of stuff in it, but that I
think should already all be defaults.  Try moving aside your xorg.conf
and see if you can reproduce the issue with the stock system default
settings.

Finally, just in case, can you describe how you're starting X?  I assume
you're just using the standard gdm service for starting it up, but some
of the errors I usually only see when firing up X manually or using
startx.
