Message #64255
[Bug 528756] [NEW] Ubuntu forgets my screen resolution settings every time I reboot
You have been subscribed to a public bug:
Binary package hint: gnome-control-center
Every time I reboot/boot up ubuntu I have to change the screen
resolution settings back to 1152*864 from the value of 1024*768. I do
this by going to system-preferences-display, where I get the message "It
appears that your graphics driver does not support the necessary
extensions to use this tool. Do you want to use your graphics driver
vendor's tool instead?". I have nvidia video card, so it brings me to
nvidia x server settings when I click "yes". I then select x server
display configuration, click 1152*864, click apply. This changes the
resolution, but the change is not remembered by ubuntu upon restarting
my computer. (I also tried clicking "save to x configuration file" in
nvidia's x server settings, but it says "Failed to parse existing X
config file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf'!". There is no way that I can get
ubuntu to remember or correctly detect my screen resolution. (This would
not be a big deal except the default screen resolution shifts my screen
to the left, making ubuntu unusable untill I adjust the screen screen
resolution.) - Adam
