First saw problem when the kernel upgrade was applied to beta2 i.e. from 2.6.32-19 to -21 
and am also seeing same problem in RC.

If I boot from recovery CD and complete boot to single user. I can
recreate the problem by running the gdm startup ( /etc/init.d/gdm start)
, get blank screen and am unable to switch sessions (Alt-FX).
