I tested again with the instruction. It works fine.

hoa@halcyon:~/Forge/xorg/xorg-server-1.7.6$ patch -p1 < xserver-xorg-backclear.patch
patching file composite/compalloc.c
Hunk #1 succeeded at 486 (offset 3 lines)

I suggest you redownload the source-file. Then apply the patch again.
Remember to go into the xorg-server-* directory first then wget the
patch and lastly apply it.
