How have you changed the screen settings?  If you used the “xrandr”
command from a terminal, then this isn't expected to be persistent
across X restarts.

If you used the KDE system settings tool, then this is a bug there.  The
desktop environment (KDE, in this case) is responsible for setting the
appropriate screen configuration.
