[Bug 569871] Re: Fglrx will not install if nvidia-current is installed.
I don't think this is a bug. You simply installed the fglrx package but
didn't enable it in any way.
You could have done this either through Jockey (which is what I recommend) or manually as described here:

Installing a package is not enough any more because of the new
alternatives system that we have in Lucid.
