I also tried to disable DRI using the following xorg.conf:
Section "Device"
        Identifier      "Configured Video Device"
        Driver          "intel"
        Option          "DRI" "off"
EndSection

But this causes the screen to freeze mainly immediately. With the
default (no xorg.conf at all) it only sometimes freezes.
