i'm having this problem as well. here's my system info. i don't think
this is the same bug as #550218 since that's supposedly fixed. my system
info.

kubuntu lucid (w/ medibuntu source.list) dist-upgrade just now 2am 5-6-2010
 kernel 2.6.32-22-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP
 kdm
 AMD Athlon(tm) Processor LE-1660
 MCP78S [GeForce 8200] SMBus
 asus M3N78-VM
 using nvidia-current package = v 195.136.15
