I cannot recall what caused the black screen. But, it was after the
update manager downloaded I believe a low latency real time kernal also
known as preempt and preempt config. I let it have time to shut down and
boot; then, I worked 9 hours some of which included attempting to get
jack control to function. I did not get sound so I went on working. then
as mentioned before I walked to the kitchen, ate a cookie and came back
to the black screen giving me five options; I did not know how to
reconfigure, nor do anything except come to a chance to continue in
graphics only mode. I did that for an hour and logged off. When I logged
back in the OS performed okay for routine professional writing
functions. But, I did not check out ubuntu studio features as I really
am not able to
