I had installed 256 drivers from x-swat PPA and in two times I have
booted I had no problems:

https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates

Please test.

And update kernel to 2.6.32-22.36 (if it will be the solution for this
bug).
