ok i am a bit new to ubuntu so i was stuck. It seems in order to kill the screen saver you have to issue 
sudo killall gnome-screensaver 
again after doing
sudo chmod -x /usr/bin/gnome-screensaver 

so this seems to be the temporary workaround for now.
