2.6.35.2-generic was updated today about 10am EST and this update did
not solve the problem.

I have a wishlist suggestion. I think that in very early alpha releases the /etc/default/grub should include a visible menu. 
So the default line should be:

#GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=4

This would make life easier for the early alpha testers, since we all
must change this line in the expectation we will have some kernel
problems.
