I'm seeing a very similar issue:

After upgrading to nvidia-current 195.36.15-0ubuntu3 from nvidia-current 195.36.15-0ubuntu2 my  MacMini (GeForce 9400) fails load the nivdia driver.
The driver seems to be present, but fails to load under X with the following error:

(**) NVIDIA(0): Option "NoLogo" "True"
(**) Jun 11 14:31:58 NVIDIA(0): Enabling RENDER acceleration
(II) Jun 11 14:31:58 NVIDIA(0): Support for GLX with the Damage and Composite X extensions is
(II) Jun 11 14:31:58 NVIDIA(0):     enabled.
(EE) Jun 11 14:31:58 NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module. Please see the
(EE) Jun 11 14:31:58 NVIDIA(0):     system's kernel log for additional error messages and
(EE) Jun 11 14:31:58 NVIDIA(0):     consult the NVIDIA README for details.
(EE) NVIDIA(0):  *** Aborting ***

Downgrading to nvidia-current 195.36.15-0ubuntu2 solves the issue.
